It is my greatest pleasure to welcome you to the 11th Biennial Scientific
Conference of the College of Health Sciences, KNUST. This year’s conference is unique and promises to
be exciting because it is the second to be held immediately after the COVID-19 pandemic where the
College was at the forefront of the fight against the pandemic. Ghana’s economic rise coupled with the
adoption of Western lifestyles and widespread environmental pollution have resulted in the rise of
noncommunicable diseases including cancers thereby posing serious health challenges to Ghanaians. As
we celebrate our 11th since the start of the College of Health Sciences scientific conference series, we are
delighted to have speakers to talk on a wide range of topics that could improve our lifestyles and wellbeing.
The conference participants can either join in person or online via Zoom, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and
YouTube.
This year our committee received and processed 141 abstracts with majority requesting oral presentations. However, only 40 slots were available for oral presentations, so we had to shift some requests to the poster presentations. Despite the series of scientific conferences held this year in KNUST, some researchers were able to submit quality abstracts which reflected in the high numbers.
I take this moment to thank all members of the Scientific Committee and the external reviewers who graciously reviewed and scored all abstracts submitted at a short notice. It will not have been possible without your dedication and commitment. We are maintaining our time slot of 10 minutes talk and 5 minutes question time. We still insist that oral presenters stick strictly to this time allocation to enable a successful progression of the meeting. Slides should be uploaded before the meeting starts for the day or during snacks and lunch breaks. Poster presenters should mount posters on the first day and keep them up till the last day of the conference. Participants should stand by their posters during the poster sessions. I also entreat participants to interact and network during the breaks and socialization times to establish collaboration, mentorship, and exchange of ideas. It is my fervent hope that this year’s meeting will be a memorable one.
