On behalf of the Provost of the College of Health Sciences and the Planning
Committee of this Conference, I welcome you to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and
Technology and to this conference. This is the 11th in the series of biennial conferences being held by the
College to address pertinent issues affecting us as a nation. This year’s conference is themed around the
Sustainable Development Goal 3 – “Promoting Healthy Lives and Wellbeing”. As a college, not only do we
believe that health is wealth, it is also our belief that the health of the nation is paramount in all its
undertakings. This is evidenced in the quality of training we give to our students. Through our teaching and
research, we have contributed in no small way to our university being declared the Global leader in quality
education (SDG 4).
The University has made substantial contribution to wellness of its staff through its Wellness Centre, which regularly organises programmes for staff. The College also contributes to this with yearly health checks for its staff. This conference addresses issues of wellbeing to further support us take good care of our health.
We have assembled experts from within the College to speak broadly on lifestyle diseases and how we can negotiate our health through good practices. As indicated, this is the 11th in the series of biennial conferences the College is holding. While thanking the Provost for the responsibility of planning the conference, the Planning Committee is grateful to all Past Provosts for sustaining the conference. Prof Adu Sarkodie, the second Provost of the College initiated this. We are grateful to him for agreeing to Chair this 11th edition.
While acknowledging the support of our sponsors, we wish all participants a good conference and hope we will leave with good learning experiences.
Welcome again and thank you for attending.
