Kwesi Asabir

Kwesi ASABIR (PhD) is the Director of the Human Resource for Health Directorate at the Ministry of Health, Ghana. He is a seasoned Human Resource practitioner with over twenty-two (22) years of experience at the Senior Management level of the Ghana Health Sector. He led the development of the National Human Resource for Health Policy and Strategic Document in 2020 to serve as a guide to the contribution of Human Resources for Health in Health System Strengthening in Ghana. He played a key role in the partnership with Operation Smile Ghana to develop and finalize Ghana’s NSOAP (2025 – 2029). In the year 2022, AFRO invited him as one of the Human Resource for Health Experts in Africa to join a team of Experts that developed and completed a Human Resource for Health Strategic document for AFRICA in the year 2024 entitled: AFRICAN HEALTH WORKFORCE INVESTMENT CHARTER. With the support of WHO, he facilitated the development and finalization of the National Health Labour Market Analysis document in the year 2024, which shows the strengths and weaknesses of the health workforce in Ghana. He strategically involves all the Health Professional unions in major decision-making processes to promote industrial Peace and Harmony between the Government of Ghana and the Health Professional Unions within the Public Health Sector in Ghana. He holds a BSc in Health Sciences Education, completed in 2004 from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana, an MSc in Human Resource Development, completed in 2005 from the University of Manchester, U K, and a PhD in Development Policy and Management, completed in 2009, also from the University of Manchester, U. K. He is passionate about investing in people, and this has motivated him to establish the ASABIR Foundation, which aims to share love and change lives. He is also the author of a book titled ‘MIGHTY POWER FOR TRANSFORMATION’.
