Bios – Bonifacia Benefo Agyei

Bonifacia’s professional journey is marked by her expertise in strengthening healthcare systems through quality improvement, business development, and innovation. Prior to her tenure at PharmAccess, Bonifacia honed her skills and gained valuable experience in various senior capacities. She worked for over a decade in the Ghana Health Service, the Mini stry of Health (Nurse education), and the National Health Insurance Authority. Her roles included Registered Nurse, Perioperative Nurse, and Nurse Educator, where she was responsible for specific responsibilities and achievements. Bonifacia joined PharmAccess Group in 2012 as a Quality Advisor. She later rose to the position of Lead Quality Advisor in 2013, coordinating the SafeCare program in Ghana and then Country Manager in 2016. Bonifacia Benefo Agyei is currently the Director of the SafeCare Program in PharmAccess Ghana, a leading international initiative focused on advancing quality improvement in healthcare facilities and supporting the institutionalisation of quality in the healthcare system in Ghana through collaboration with public and private partners. With over a decade of experience in quality assessment, systems facilitation, and institutionalisation of quality improvement practices, Bonifacia has supportedhealthcare facilities across Ghana in meeting globally recognized standards. Her leadership has been pivotal in embedding quality and safety at the core of healthcare service delivery, particularly through her work with the Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG) and other national partners. Her expertise extends beyond Ghana’s borders, leading and supporting quality improvement initiatives in healthcare facilities in Sierra Leone, Liberia, and the Gambia. Bonifacia’s cross-country experience has positioned her as a trusted technical advisor and facilitator in resource-constrained environments, contributing to strengthening health systems through the SafeCare standards and QI approach. Bonifacia’s depth of experience allows her to contextualize global quality frameworks into practical, sustainable solutions for local settings. Bonifacia has represented her organization at high-level international conferences and forums, sharing insights on innovative strategies for healthcare quality improvement in low- and middle-income countries. She is known for her passion for excellence, collaborative leadership, and commitment to building resilient, patient-centred healthcare systems. Her work inspires transformation in health facilities and empowers healthcare professionals across the continent. She is a graduate nurse with a perioperative specialisation and a Commonwealth Executive master’s in public administration. She holds a certificate in Management Analytics from MIT, an MPhil in Management (Healthcare Quality), and is currently pursuing a Doctorate degree in the same in UCAM Catholic University of Murcian, Spain. She is a member of the International Society for Quality in Health Care and the IFC IQ-HealthCare Community of Practice. She is also a regular visiting facilitator of the Mastercard Foundation’s Africa Health Collaborative Short Courses at KNUST, in the Quality Improvement Module.
